What to Do – At the Estate
There is much to do at Old Coach Road Estate, so leave some time in your itinerary to make the most of this special place, even though there is so much happening on the Fleurieu Peninsula! When you stay on-site you can have a picnic beside our Croaking Creek Dam, take a walk through the Heritage scrub (either self guided or with our Nature Guide, Neale Dyster), have a personalised on-site yoga class with gen.yoga, learn cheesemaking and wine pairing or undertake a cooking class led by our highly successful Cooking Teacher (Anita Robin). Of course there are plenty of board games for indoors and some outdoor favourites too, such as Finska. At night, by prior arrangement and assuming the clouds are clear we can arrange for a personalised Astronomy Experience.
Of course it's just fine to relax and enjoy OCRE. The stunning master bedroom is so beautiful that you might want to just watch the world go by from its comfy king bed or through the cathedral lounge windows while enjoying the ambience of the open fire!
Classic Australian Rural Experiences
Billy tea with camp oven damper
Have you always wanted to try cooking in a camp oven in the traditional way? You can give this a try at OCRE in the cooler months of the year without all the hassle of camping. Place your order at least 2 days prior and, assuming the weather conditions are suitable, we will supply the ingredients, the camp-oven and the instructions to make your own damper and billy tea using our purpose built outdoor fireplace.
Bushwalking at OCRE
When you stay at OCRE you are welcome to enjoy several walks on the property. You may wish to take advantage of a guided nature walk with a highly experienced local naturalist. Subject to availability, join Neale Dyster (who also took many of our nature photographs) on your personalised tour. You will see wildlife up close in their natural environment, learn about the native wildflowers and, at certain times of the year see beautiful native orchids. Make an enquiry to learn more about our on-site guided nature-lover's bush walks and their availability.
Birdwatching at OCRE
Beautiful birds are numerous at OCRE and the variety is wide ranging from the huge wedge tailed eagles that nest in the tall trees in the scrub through to the tiny blue wrens frequently seen around the house. See how many different varieties you spot during your stay! A listing of potential sightings is provided for visitors, together with bird identification books and binoculars. Take a look at some of the beautiful birds we have photographed at OCRE in the Gallery. You are welcome to forward your photos to us for possible inclusion in our gallery!
On-Site Fun, Games and Learning
Games & Activities Provided
Enjoy some games on the back lawn with family and friends! Finska, Jenga and Boule sets are provided for all to use. There are plenty of board games and puzzles for inside pleasure as well, with Catan being particularly popular.
Yoga Classes at OCRE
Our wonderful yoga teacher, Gen (500RYT Yoga Alliance), has been teaching yoga for over six years to all students from beginners through to advanced, including office workers, children and sportspeople. Her calm and alluring voice complements her style of teaching which is encouraging and alignment focused, allowing you to slip into shapes that fit your own unique body. She teaches both Vinyasa Flow and Yin styles, and can tailor a class to fit your holiday - strong and sweaty, steady and focused, or soft and chilled - maybe a mixture of all of the above! Interested in arranging a personalised yoga class at Old Coach Road Estate during your stay? If so please contact us with your enquiry!
Cheesemaking Masterclass at OCRE
Mark Potter has been making cheese for years and now he has developed a kit and 3 hour on-demand instructional video with all that you need to enjoy creating your home-made haloumi and ricotta cheeses.
Once created the cheeses are tasted with a progressive palate of 4 Hugh Hamilton wines that come with the cheesemaking kit! We recommend adding a platter from the Meeting Place in McLaren Vale and you can select either a snacking platter or a meal platter to accompany your Masterclass in Cheese and Wine Pairing.
