Location

The Fleurieu Peninsula has so much to offer visitors and, due to its central location, it is all within easy reach from Old Coach Road Estate! However many of our visitors never leave the property as there is plenty to do on-site. It is just so easy to relax and enjoy the ambiance of the beautiful home and the stunning views that you may not want to do anything more than that! But if you want to enjoy the beautiful beaches, the stunning southern coastline, visit the famous McLaren Vale wineries or the various breweries or distilleries, they are just a short drive away. For the foodies the options are wide with fabulous restaurants and regular farmers' markets also within easy reach. The Saturday morning Willunga Farmers' Market shouldn't be missed!

Alternatively, simply stay on-site and enjoy the large, open fireplace in the lounge room, watch the beautiful native birds and the many kangaroos through the floor to ceiling windows, or step outside for a picnic by the dam, a walk through the Heritage scrub or, in the winter months, weather permitting, you can enjoy the outdoor fireplace. A perfect place for the romantic getaway, a golfing weekend for several couples or a girls weekend away. Our visitors have other options too, with astronomy experiences, cooking classes and guided nature walks as optional extras, subject to availability.

Romance

OCRE is perfect for the romantic getaway for 2 people. The secluded position of the villa, its incredible master bedroom with views described by some as "the best in South Australia" oozes romance! And the setting is enhanced by hotel quality linen, fluffy white robes, a gorgeous open fireplace with  firewood, complimentary wine and chocolate treats and a claw footed bath. Your romantic getaway can be further enhanced by a 'fine dining experience' where our highly experienced and delightful cooking teacher will guide you to create your own romantic dinner for two on-site! Of course if you would prefer to eat out, many fabulous restaurants and wineries are an easy drive from OCRE.

Fun with Family and Friends

The property is also the perfect place for 3 couples as all 3 bedrooms have air-conditioning, ceiling fans, high quality linen and king beds. The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped, and the BBQ and a large outdoor setting are fabulous if you are keen for a relaxed lunch on the back deck. The second and third bedrooms can each be configured to 2 king single beds if preferred.

Outdoor games such as Finska and Jenga are available to use on the back lawn when relaxing at OCRE.

Of course being central on the Fleurieu Peninsula means that trips to favourite waterfalls, the local wineries at McLaren Vale and Currency Creek, the many farmers’ markets, restaurants and beaches are only a short drive away. The range of supermarkets within 15 minutes drive includes Woolworths, Coles, IGA and Aldi so it is very easy to keep well stocked if you prefer to self cater.

You may wish to take advantage of the chance to learn some more skills from our highly trained cooking teacher. The "Fine Dining Experience" is a particularly popular choice as is her "Bread Making" class. See our 'What to Do' tab for more information.

Exploring Nature

The nature lover will love the birds and wildlife and especially the on-site nature walk through the heritage scrub with its wide variety of flora and fauna. Large groups of kangaroos live on the property and an echidna is regularly seen moving from place to place. On occasion a bandicoot is spotted. Black and brown snakes are often seen in the warmer months so sturdy shoes and long pants are always recommended when walking on the property. During spring the variety of native orchids found in the heritage scrub is incredible! Be sure to pack your camera!!

You may wish to take a personalised, guided nature tour of the property with an expert naturalist, Neale Dyster. Neale is also a nature photographer and you can see many of his photos in our gallery. See the "What to do" tab for more information about the personalised nature walks.

Unique Peaceful Setting

Our guests remark on the stunning views, the kangaroos, echidnas, the wide variety of Australian birds, the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and the beautiful starry nights. The 360 views from OCRE are simply stunning.

The huge master bedroom overlooks heritage scrub and open fields, with the view extending down to the Southern Ocean. Granite Island and "The Bluff" are landmarks easily spotted. At night the lights of Victor Harbour twinkle in the distance, but these lights are clearly outdone by the stars on a clear night and moonless night! Our guests enjoy luxurious accommodation and on cooler nights the open fireplace in the lounge is an absolute favourite.

Words From
Our Guests

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at OCRE! The location is amazing, being perched on the side of a hill will sweeping views that go all the way to the coast. Kangaroos often bound across the hillside below and opposite, and can be observed going about their day from a telescope in the main bedroom. A small but perfectly tended patch of lawn out the back is perfect for a picnic, or doing as we did and making use of the finska set for an afternoon game. The home itself is beautiful, with the main room and open fire managing to feel both grand and open, yet still warm and comfortable. Angela was a terrific host who had thought of everything, and there were plenty of little touches that made the stay feel personal. Would happily recommend this place to anyone considering it!
