Environment

Having owned the villa of Old Coach Road Estate and its immediate surroundings since 2019 our positive impact upon the local environment is just beginning. However, we have been working for more than 30 years to repair the stringybark forest, which is in the centre of our adjacent farm. This beautiful piece of scrubland is home to numerous birds, reptiles and mammals native to the local area surrounding Victor Harbor and is now under a Heritage Agreement with the South Australian Government, a testament to its rich biodiversity.

Furthermore we have planted in excess of 20,000 trees, shrubs and grasses to assist in the regeneration of the land that had become denuded from earlier farm practices. This work is now continuing around Old Coach Road Estate and we welcome guests to join in with winter planting should they wish!

With the support of ERC Australia, we have also committed to an emissions reduction plan. Our plan can be seen here. Our guests are supplied with facilities that ensure that recycling, composting and minimising waste is easy to do, and for guests with electric vehicles, we have an EV charger in our carport that is provided free of charge. As we have solar panels and a battery, it is preferable that guests charge their vehicle during daylight hours.

Rain water alone is available at Old Coach Road Estate, so the rain showers are truly that! A filter is in place in the kitchen to provide healthy and tasty drinking water, and rainwater ice is available too, using the fridge's inbuilt ice-maker! All wastewater is managed onsite, and this helps to water the lawn on the western side of the villa.
